Welcome! Knowingly or unknowingly, you’ve landed on the website for the ASCE Seattle Section Younger Member Forum! My name is Matthew Thomas and I’m excited and honored to serve as your President for the 2026-2027 calendar year.
I’m proud to lead and be part of a community that brings together the next generation of civil engineers across the Seattle area. Whether you’re a student, recent graduate, young engineering professional, or almost aging out (like me), the Seattle YMF is here for you.
Throughout the year, we host a mix of technical and professional development events, volunteer opportunities, and networking events. Our goal as a YMF isn’t just to help you become a better engineer—it’s to help you build relationships with people who can become your colleagues, trusted mentors, collaborators, and close friends throughout your respective careers.
This year, we’ve also rejuvenated our Mentorship Program in the hopes of providing critical mentorship to students and young professionals across the Puget Sound. I’ve personally benefitted from a fantastic workplace mentorship program and as the YMF we’re now committing to providing that benefit to our members. I encourage you to please sign up to be a mentee - the more matches we provide, the more fruitful a program we can build into the future.
Seattle is an epicenter of civil engineering here in the United States - we’re surrounded by groundbreaking infrastructure projects, innovative engineering firms, and growing communities around every corner. From transportation and structural engineering to water resources, environmental work, construction, and beyond, the civil engineering landscape in Seattle has never been brighter and the opportunity to make an impact never more perfect.
